Some have commented on how frustrating it is to play against people who play for 2nd rather than go after Low. If you are one of those players who does this, thinking that it will improve your Ranking, I don't believe that it does. I've been keeping a spreadsheet recently of my results, and it appears that you lose about the same number of points (between 5 & 12 typically) if you Place (finish 2nd or 3rd) or Lose (finish 4th). I have seen some hands where I lost more points Placing than another hand where I've Lost.
PS: for Winning your score improves by 20+ points typically.
Playing for Second Place
Re: Playing for Second Place
That's not my point. Of course no points are earned for finishing 2nd. What I'm saying is that there is not much difference, if any, in how many points you lose whether you finish 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Therefore, there is no reason to play for 2nd, and every reason to try to go after the Low person.
Re: Playing for Second Place
Aidan,
There may not be points for 2nd place but today I played (poorly) came in 4th 3 times and lost 1 point each time. Last game I came in 2nd and lost 2 points. What is the deal there??
