Hello all,

The new networking system is ready to be tested finally for Macs and PCs.

You can download the new beta versions here:
Mac Version
Windows Version

You can install the beta version alongside your normal GrassGames' Cribbage game - it will not affect your existing game. The new version is called "GrassGame's Cribbage Beta" and has its own preferences etc.

There are now 4 different ways to setup online games:

  • Public Online Game - this uses a new "GrassGames Network Account" system. You will need to register (free) for an account within the game and confirm it by email. This is implemented to prevent people from using other peoples user names, and to keep things a bit more under control (in the future it will be possible to ban users who don't behave properly - this is badly needed in GrassGames' Hearts at the moment). It is also needed if/when tournaments, leagues, ladders & daily challenge modes get implemented. The same account can be used in other GrassGames titles also.

  • Private Online Game - users can connect just using their game user name, but all users will need to know the name of the private room to connect to others. Useful for setting up private games between friends or family.

  • Local Network Game - a quick method of connecting to people on your local network.

  • Old Network System - the old networking system from version 3. Note I haven't tested this connecting to games running version 3, so its better to use the new systems when possible. Use this one mainly to contact people using the old system and tell them to get the new system if they can.

If you don't find players online, use the old network system, and tell others there to use the new beta version (send them the cribbage forums: www.grassgames.com/cribbage/forums).

Before I proceed further, I need to know if connections work and are reliable, so please try it out and post your experiences here.

Sorry for the long wait,
Aidan.

Hi!

Downloaded and installed GrassGamesCribbageBeta; resulted in the following message when the icon was clicked:

(from module Cribbage_DX9.exe) - "The procedure entry point inet_pton could not be located in the dynamic link library W52_32.dll".

I rebooted/restarted Windows - same result.

Oh .... OS is Win/XP SVC Pak 3 up-to-date.

Not what yopu wanted to hear I'm sure, but is IS a Beta, right??? I'm just happy that someone is working on this otherwise fine product :)

Ciao-

David, if you are bored, can you try the new Beta version of GrassGames' Hearts on XP? It uses the same networking system as Cribbage, and has some updates for the problem you mentioned.

Aidan ....

I'm seldom bored....but I don't play Hearts. Why not apply the same/similar 'updates' to Cribbage????

Folks show up there, but none of us, to this day, can connect.. :(
