Macs/PCs: Press Space and start typing, Enter when done.
iPhones/iPads: Press the game time.

Cela ne m'était pas évident à mon grand âge
Could be added to network information.
Another thing : hosting, I invite a player. A winked window appears, unreadable. (on a mac). Then "connecting (stage 1)" and further "could not connect". WHY!
Looking on "OPTIONS"/Network/online, what the use of "Login auto" and "port number touse" :?:

There is a chat button on the network page for this.

"could not connect" means that the connection is being blocked somehow - could be a firewall problem or router configuration problem - had to know,

"Auto Login" will log you in online every time you start the game, so you will be always in the players list for network games.

"Port Number" does not need to be changed, but if you can never connect, you can try changing it to some other value.

Thanks, Aidan, for those explanations. However, I am not completely satisfied.
As for the "chat" button, it doesn't seem to operate on my Mac. And I don't size the real use of it as chatting is possible without the use of it.
Furthermore, in case of bad connections, how to handle the supplementary port numbers?

"There is a chat button on the network page for this."
That is what you said!
Dear Aidan, I seem to bother you. It's not my intention, but I still wonder about the use of this chat button!
Please, be graceful to a frenchman who do not fluently understand, and regret this very much, the english idiome.
You said you offered talking with me by email, but I think to share with the community is a better way to clear one's questions. Forum is excellent!
How I will be exhausted if you agree to send some response.

Don't worry Dan - all is ok.

The chat button shows a message that says "Press Space to chat", you might have missed it. Anyway you have to press Space to start chatting, then you just type. You'll see the text appear at the bottom. I might update this someday.

Don't worry too much about the port numbers - it will probably not help the problem.

If you want, write down the port numbers used in the network options menu, then search the web about "port forwarding". I don't have proper information about all this at this time.

Also have a look here:

I'll add to this post:
For those people who like to talk when playing, I consider that the place where texts appears on the screen could be improved. It's rather unreadable on top as we usually glance at it's center.

The chatting has been updated in both the lobby and while playing in the latest version 3.2 - have you checked out the changes?

Also there's a new "Chat Sounds" option in the online options menu so you can hear when a chat messages comes in. This will probably be turned off for existing users, so have a look at the options. New users will have it turned on be default.
