V 7.10.00 Mac won't sleep now

Post by lil_poe_jr »

If I have V 7.10.00 open, for some reason the iMac (V 10.13.6) I use will not put the display to sleep nor anything else.

I thought I did the upgrade according to instructions (took the old app and put it in the trash), but maybe I overlooked something. Maybe there is a plist or something I still need to physically delete.

any ideas on something to try so i can once again have the iMac taking the naps it enjoys so much?

I have tried removing the new version, restarting the Mac, then re-installing it. That plan was zero help.

thanks in advance

No help here.
I'm running Solitaire version 7.10 on my iMac with macOS 10.14.6 and just tried sleeping it with the game open and no problems.
I'd suggest deleting all traces of the game on your iMac and re-downloading and installing the new version again. It can be a little tricky the first time.
Good luck!

Thanks for the try, Hamerfan.

I'll try d/l'ing a new copy. As far as "all traces" go, the only thing I see is the app itself after I unzip the file. I copy that file into the /applications folder then put a copy of that into the quick start bar as well. So I am at a loss for any other place to look for the "traces" you speak of. Any ideas? I don't see a grass games folder in the library, and I've used the spotlight to search for 3D, solitaire, and grass with the only usable results being the targets for the copies, the app itself, the zip file, and the folder I use to keep the downloads in. I do delete the app before the upgrade.

this time I trashed all of the zip files I had, and the app that kept the Mac from sleeping. Downloaded a new copy of the zip file, unzipped it, then moved the new app to the /applications folder and placed a shortcut in the dock. I'm still having the same issue, the display will not go to sleep even if I use the sleep button from the Apple, let alone after the 5 minutes of time I have the energy saver set for, if the 3D solitaire is open.

I used terminal to find out what might be keeping it from sleeping and this is the response.

I think this line may have something to do with it:

Code: Select all

Are you trying to get the computer to sleep automatically with the game open and running, or are you saying the system won't sleep since you installed the game, but when the game is not running?

The game does nothing when it is not opened and running, installed or otherwise.

I'm trying to say that if I have the v7.10.00 installed and open the computer will not go into sleep mode. the game MUST be open for it to fail to go to sleep. It does not matter if I try to use the sleep command under the apple, or if I wait the 5 minutes of inactivity the energy saver is set for the display to go to sleep. Neither will happen if I have the V7.10.00 solitaire opened. It sleeps just fine with v 6.73 installed and open.

The thing is, I like the game. I've had it for many years. And I like to just leave it open. But with this latest version upgrade I don't want to chance harming the display if I forget to close the app before leaving for work or something (because it won't put itself to sleep anymore).

Did I clear that up, or make it muddier?

FYI I've also tried resetting the SMB, PRAM (NVRAM), and done several boots into "safe mode"-- all with the same results. If the V7.10.00 is open, the computer will not go to sleep after the 5 minutes of inactivity nor if I try to use the sleep command under the apple.

Ok I'll have a look into this.

V7 was completely re-written using a different internal engine, so that's why some differences will appear.

This has been fixed up in Version 7.14.

Thanks for the terminal commands - they helped me easily find the problem.
