Re: Improving the AI
Granted, Point 2 doesn't happen often but one example might be, if both players have low cards: taking 2 points for a fifteen (instant gratification) and giving the human opponent 4 or 5 points for filling an inside straight. A rookie mistake. Not something an experienced and skilled human player wo...

Re: Improving the AI
Some of the play weaknesses I have noticed: 1) The computer will make pairs whenever possible, whereas a human may be more wary, afraid of giving their opponent six points (unless, of course they have the 12-point fourth card.) The computer doesn't always use this tactic so pairing is rather safe. 2...

Re: Improving the AI
I win about half the games against the computer. I've skunked it and it has returned the favour. I find its game play to be predictable and if you're any good at all you can sometimes exploit this 'weakness.' It never misses points however. A better than average opponent but not unbeatable.

Re: Card Designs
I think, Martin, that you create your own designs so you can use your custom-made cards to play on the computer. I don't think your computer is designed to manufacture playing cards.

Re: Skunks 101
After some checking i have found that Al and I are both correct. Under American Cribbage Congress and the Cribbage Corner rules a 31-point win is a "skunk" and counts as a double win and a 61-point win is a "double-skunk" and counts as a triple or quadruple win. Upon further inve...

Re: Skunks 101
What rule book are you using?
American Cribbage Congress rules (http://www.cribbage.org/rules/rule1.asp) describe:
"Skunk - to win by 31 or more points" and
"Skunk, double - to win by 61 or more points."
I have heard a skunk called a lurch (but only once in my lifetime.)

Skunks 101
I've come across a few people who don't know what a skunk is. Other than the smelly rodent, a skunk (in cribbage) is a game won by 31 or more points and counts as two wins. A double skunk is a game won by 61 or more points and counts as four wins. Thus endeth the lesson. Brian The computer doesn't r...

Re: New Version - Omniscient Game Logic?
There are 20,358,520 possible six-card combinations in a 52-card deck and 15 four-card combinations from the six cards dealt. How much time programming would it take to stack a deck so that the computer consistently gets better hands? Brian The formulae I used are: 52! / ((52 - 6)! x 6!) = 52x51x50x...

Re: Turned up card invariably favors the computer hand
I have come to the conclusion that the 'turned up card,' (the starter) favours neither the computer nor the human player. I have won the majority of games I have played against the computer. Either I live a charmed life (I don't), I'm a better 'player' than the computer (we are about even), or my co...

Re: Turned up card invariably favors the computer hand
Check your stats. Under "Average Hand Points Per Round Won" you will find how little the turned up card favours the computer. Of the 80 games I have played against the machine, the lead has see-sawed between me and Mac. Currently, the computer has won 41 games. The difference in the aforem...

Re: A suggestion..........or two..
Don't you think it might be a disservice to your granddaughter teaching this version of "cribbage"? It's not the game on the computer and it's not the game played by everyone else on the planet. How will she learn? As for the four-player option, I think it might be a good idea for some. Mo...

Re: Turned up card invariably favors the computer hand
Oddly, I have not noticed this computer-favoured cut. I guess that my computer likes me more than your computer likes you.
