Version 3 - Improving the Bots

Post by Aidan »

For those who have played against the bots frequently, can you please point out the worst plays they make so I can try and get some fixes in for the upcoming Version 3.

I don't have time to play against them myself so I need some help to get them to play better.

Thanks!

Hi Aidan,
I think They should try to dump to low and try to save the higher player especially when then match is at the end.
Thx
Alex

Their passing is terrible. It is way easier to moon against the bots, they often do not pass a heart.

If the queen of spades comes out and no hearts have been played you can always depend on the bots to duck and never take a heart to stop a moon. If the queen is out they should be willing to take 1 heart to stop a moon.

Queen of spades has been played and another player has taken hearts and there are 4 tricks left. Often, but not always, If I play a moderate diamond like the 8 the bot will take the trick with a higher card and then all the cards flip because they take the rest of the tricks. When cards flip you see the bot was holding 3 more diamonds that were lower than the 8. Why would they take that trick?

In general the bots play all or nothing for the moon. As Steve said they pass moons with utter abandon. They will go for a moon even when they have a hand that has no chance. For instance I am leading and I pass to a bot. I will pass them something to insure they can't moon but sometimes I see they have an 8H which I didn't pass and makes it easy for me to stop their attempted moon if I choose to. Why are they trying to moon when they kept an 8H. Makes no sense.

As already mentioned. The randomness to which a bot will play the queen of spades. They will pass on multiple opportunities to give QS to low and then end up eating QS. Makes no sense to pass on low much less end up eating queen.

I think you could spend a lot of time trying to program the bots and I wonder how much it will really improve things. Just so many situations that are unique and difficult to program to without taking a ton of time to do it.

Ok - I've addressed all these points mentioned above and the AI players will be (hopefully a lot) better in V3.
