MSX Roots? |

Congratz for a fantastic game, Aidan. I have the strong impression that this game has serious roots on the old MSX hit, Konami's ping pong, is that true? Have you ever played that version? |

Amazing, how'd you know ... I loved it on the Spectrum, and always had the desire to make a table tennis game since then (about 20 years). Well spotted :-) Twas the best of all my spectrum games by far back then. |

Yeah! I knew it since the very first time I saw that floating bat and.. one button for fast response and the other one for slow response? I just had to hear it from you, but I was already pretty sure about it heh. Fantastic after touch idea, it's very well implemented and really feels and works like the real thing. Well, maybe you won't believe it, but I still play MSX ping pong in an emulator up to nowadays (it's very light so I play it while burning CDs :-). A couple things I have to mention that you could do to make this game even better: 1 - exhagerated ball height in physics. It's very hard to figure out exactly how hight the ball is in all playable game views, specially due to the very fast game pace. If the ball parabolic trajectory would be calculated as more curvey (ie. flying higher in its apex) that would make for much better visual feedback for the player. A bit hard to explain, but hope that's clear enough.. 2 - Sound helper for high balls - Something I sorely miss from the MSX/ZX versions are the ball-high sound that indicated that the ball were high enough to be struck (middle button in your game). That was great since added to the anticipation feeling both from the attacker and the defender. Think about it, that could be a nice option. ;) Cheers from your brazilian friend, and keep up the good work! |

Ok - obrigardo for the ideas. I'll look into them in more detail for the next version - and might put them in as options. They are both definitely worth some looking into. Take it easy ... |

Is that game somewhere downloadable? |

This is funny - I only discovered the game 2 days ago (Mac OS X port) and my first thought was about the similarities with Konami-s MSX Ping-Pong of 1985! Incredible. Great game you have made guys! I will post a little news on my site (www.msxgamesbox.com) bout this! |
