Game Speed Changes

I'm in the middle of a game with speed set to Relaxed. For some reason the speed changes to something much faster beyond my skill level. I can escape, go top options and reset the speed to Relaxed. But most of time when I return to the game, my paddle has disappeared. Anyone else seeing this? Bug?
