Revert to previous version on App Store

I bought GrassGames Cribbage from the Apple App Store and have been using 4.230. For various reasons I don't like version 5 and want to remain on 4.230. I can't find any way to prevent upgrading Cribbage unless I turn off ALL automatic updates from the App Store, which I don't want to do. In retrospect it would have been better if I had bought off your website, then I could manually choose to install the upgrades or not. How can I solve this? Can I somehow convert my App Store version to a website download version or would I be forced to buy a new license from the website? No idea what that would cost though because there are no prices listed.

Hello, please list the points you don't like here, and I'll upgrade version 5 instead. I presume one of them is the Avatars and as a consequence the smaller board - there'll be an option to turn them off in the next release, which I am working on now.

I didn't post the original message but jumped on this forum to see if others aren't real happy about this new version. Personally, I miss the old version of playing against the computer instead of avatars in local play. I miss the old board I used in practice. I don't enjoy playing against computer "players" that make mistakes, so the available avatars with the best records are boring. Overall, I play this game really infrequently since the upgrade, though before version 5, I played it all the time.

Correct, I really don't like having to pick a player. I don't want different levels or abilities or whatever that was about (not even sure what the idea of that is to be honest). I just want to play me vs. computer as it was before. And yes, the avatars also make the board significantly smaller, which is an problem for me. There was something else but I don't remember now because don't have v5 loaded any more. I managed to reload v4 from a backup, but to keep it from updating I have had to turn off auto updates on the App Store, which isn't ideal. Glad you are planning to make some changes.

In the mean time, a question: Can I download and buy a license for v4?

Hello, the latest version just released has an option to turn off the Avatars.

As for the other point about the computer player selection, the computer play was updated quite a bit for V5 and this allowed for different playing styles / abilities for the computer opponents. All the medium and harder computer players should not make any mistakes at all.

Thank you for changing the programming that now allows us to hide the picture of the computer avatar opponents.

But, is it possible to simply play Cribbage against the computer and not choose an avatar from the menu first? I don't want unskilled avatars that make mistakes or anything, but I really dislike the menu of avatars that rates their skills. I enjoyed just playing cribbage against the computer.

I don't seem to be getting an answer to my question:
Can I buy a copy of v4 from you directly?
I purchased my copy (4.2.3) through the Apple App Store, which means I have to turn App Store auto updates off completely if I want to stay with v4. I'm willing to purchase it a second time off the website so I can choose to run an older version if I want and still have the ability to turn the App Store auto update back on.

An observation:
There needs to be some sort of documentation/communication that tells people what changes have been made and how those changes affect the game. v5 gave us different players/styles/avatars etc with no explanation as to what any of it does. I wasn't even aware there were different "styles" of cribbage, so I'm not sure how I am supposed to choose one.
After many years of playing GrassGames Cribbage I have a clear benchmark of "me vs. computer" and I don't want to change that now. With these new "style" and "ability" settings in v5, is there one that makes it the game identical to v4?

I am following as well. I “upgraded” to v5 and it’s been so buggy I can’t even access the game anymore. I won’t pay $20 for it unless it’s reverted back to v4 or GrassGames can repair v5 to just let us play cribbage against the computer again. I don’t want to choose avatars to play nor select an opponent’s skill level.

If you’ll allow purchase of the old version 4, I would buy it also but v5 is not worth it.

it’s been so buggy I can’t even access the game anymore

Version 5 was hanging badly upon opening. There was no sign in page, and the game was opening in full screen offering an old player I thought I'd updated a long time ago. Once I'd select play local game, the whole thing would hang and I'd have to escape and reboot my MacBook to recover use. I really don't know how the program got so messed up, but I deleted them all and just downloaded the old V.4. Now it won't allow me to play without paying for 1 month, 3 or 1 year. I'd sure like to see if it works before I pay to play/purchase. Can you provide a code so I can try it out and make sure it works? I'm happy to pay for the program, but curious if the charge for v.4 $9.99 or $19.99 (there is a discrepancy) Thank you.

As mentioned earlier in this thread I don't want to use the Apple App Store version any more because I want to control when or if I decide to update the software. So I went into the Apple App store and deleted Cribbage, then downloaded and installed v4 from the link provided above.

When I launch it, it looks like I have to start from scratch with creating new players and setting things up, which I assume means I will loose all my preferences, custom board, years worth of stats etc.

Deleting Cribbage via the App Store only deletes the app itself. The folder at /Users/home/Library/Containers/GrassGames' Cribbage (which I think holds all the preferences, custom boards, stats, etc) was still there when I launched the new copy, so I assumed all my data would still be there.

So I reverted back by dragging-and-dropping a backup of the App Store copy of v4 back onto my Mac. It launched fine with all my data in tact. But of course I'm back to the previous problem of the App Store automatically updating to v5 unless I switch off auto updates.

Is this expected behaviour that I would have to start from scratch? They both say 4.23 but maybe the website version and the App Store version slightly different? Is there any way to load v4 from the link you provided and keep all my data in tact?

Yes, copy the folder you mentioned above to the folder mentioned in this post:

Check the "Users" sub folder first has your user file in it to be sure you are copying the right set.
